Lawrence Memorial Hospital (LMH) is a 173-bed not-for-profit health care provider with a wide range of modern facilities, state-of-the-art equipment and extensive inpatient and outpatient services serving a regional market in northeast Kansas.
The LMH Oncology Center provides advanced cancer treatments in a safe, caring and private environment that's close to home. The Center's team approach involves a network of specialists working closely with individuals, families, primary care providers and each other to deliver personalized treatment plans and additional support. In addition to standard cancer treatment options, the LMH Oncology Center offers more than 150 cancer research trials, all approved by the National Cancer Institute.
The Oncology Center's staff includes five board-certified oncologists, a Doctor of Pharmacy with specialized training in oncology, dedicated oncology social workers, and a nursing team of oncology certified professionals. The Oncology Center includes 15 private outpatient treatment rooms, which have recently been renovated and equipped with new patient infusion chairs, flat screen televisions, DVD players, comfortable guest chairs, and iPads. There also are 10 exam rooms for initial and follow-up appointments and a dedicated oncology pharmacy. The Oncology Center also hosts weekly interdisciplinary tumor conferences, provides genetic risk testing and counseling, offers support groups and survivorship programs and has an onsite specialty shop, Mario's Closet, offering salon services, skin care products, wigs, prosthetics and more.
Lawrence Memorial Hospital has expanded services in recent years, including adding interventional cardiology, comprehensive diagnostic imaging services, acute rehabilitation, a wound healing center with two hyperbaric oxygen chambers, a breast center and Immunotherapy treatment options. In addition, LMH has expanded its presence regionally with family practice clinics in Eudora, Baldwin City, Tonganoxie and McLouth and primary care and specialty physician practices in Lawrence.
The hospital completed a three-year $45 million expansion project in 2009 that included an east tower addition housing a new emergency department and expansions of the maternity and intensive care units; a new surgical services facility; as well as 18 new patient rooms.
LMH is regularly recognized for its quality and service including being named one of the nation's "Most Wired" Hospitals in 2012 and 2011, and Best Companies to Work For by Ingram's Magazine in 2012. LMH received the 2008 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence and the 2003 Kansas Award of Excellence. The LMH Heart Center has been recognized nationally among the top hospitals for heart attack care by the American College of Cardiology, and is an accredited Chest Pain Center. The Joint Commission, in conjunction with The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association has awarded LMH Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers.
LMH is self-funded from its operations, receives no tax support from the City of Lawrence or Douglas County and serves the community's health care needs regardless of individuals' ability to pay.
